BFI FAN: EDI in Focus – Accessible Cinema for Blind Audiences
-
Date
21st November 2024
The fourth edition of BFI FAN: Equality, Diversity & Inclusion in Focus, a new series of webinars for UK film exhibitors.
In this session, Charlie Little (BFI FAN’s EDI Champion) is joined by Clare Baines (BFI’s Inclusion Partner and founder of the Crip Club podcast) to share their experiences as partially sighted film lovers, and examine how exhibitors can meaningfully engage blind and partially sighted audiences.
Over two million people in the UK live with some form of sight loss. Using case studies and examples of best practice, this interactive presentation focuses on anti-ableist actions and how advocacy-based behaviour and organisational awareness of disability is crucial to create inclusive spaces for those with access needs.
Topics covered include:
- audio description
- venue access
- accessible communications
- approaches to programming
