New Producers: Organisation Callout
-
Date
29th April 2025
Film Hub Scotland member organisations can now apply to be part of this year’s New Producer programme.
We are offering four organisations from across Scotland the opportunity to create positions for emerging film exhibition talent from backgrounds underrepresented in the sector as part of our New Producers programme.
By hosting a New Producer, organisations gain the valuable opportunity to engage with emerging talent and enhance their programmes. As part of the programme, you will be able to: diversify your film offering through fresh perspectives and innovative ideas; strengthen connections with underrepresented communities; and develop the skills of both the New Producer and existing staff.
To take part, please complete the Expression of Interest form below by noon, Monday 12 May.

What is New Producers?
New Producers’ aims to increase the number of film event producers, marketers and film curators working in Scottish film exhibition from under-represented backgrounds.
This is the sixth edition of the Scheme. To date 14 organisations and 24 participants have successfully undertaken the programme. Read about our 2023/24 cohort here, and the events from our 2024/25 cohort.
Participating organisations have commented that:
- “Both our organisation and the New Promoter benefited greatly from this opportunity and found it fitted in well to our organisational structure, complemented our team, and provided a unique opportunity for an emerging curator”
- “Really loved working with our New Promoter. Super talented individual and great team member. Also great that there was a budget to go towards their events”
Role of the New Producer
The New Producer will work in collaboration to produce and publicise three film events to general audiences, with a focus on inclusion, diversity and outreach.
Each New Producer role will be shaped by their host organisation to provide a supportive environment in which to develop their skills in event production including marketing, negotiations, fundraising and curation, and training will focus on these areas. We hope that the programme will enable participating exhibitors to support the development of emerging event producers whilst also benefitting from their insight and experience.
How does it work?
Each organisation can apply to appoint one New Producer who will work for 3 days per week, for four months (flexibility in the working pattern can be discussed). FHS funding supports 51 days for the placement, equivalent to 17 weeks at 3 days per week.
The event costs, host organisation overheads and living wage (£12.60/hour Real Living Wage) of the New Producer are covered by Film Hub Scotland (FHS) funding.
Throughout the process a New Producer Coordinator (hired by FHS) will work with the partnering exhibitors to help co-manage the New Producer. Working in consultation with the venue or festival, the New Producer Coordinator will provide weekly task sheets, training in event production, day-to-day management and ongoing support via emails and weekly calls. They will also offer support to participating organisations ensuring that the scheme is effectively marketed, and that it attracts a diverse range of candidates.
Key dates
The programme is open to both venues and festivals and will run between July – December 2025. The New Producer positions should be carried out during this period.
Creative Access
For this year’s scheme, Film Hub Scotland is piloting a partnership with Creative Access to support the recruitment of one of the New Producer roles. Creative Access will support on the end-to-end recruitment process, offering a tailored and inclusive service designed to reach candidates from under-represented backgrounds.
Creative Access’ recruitment support includes outreach to their broad talent network, long-listing, shortlisting, and candidate support. Creative Access will also provide training to a member of the training organisation to ensure that they can best accommodate their New Producer.
