Pilot Projects

for projects up to £5000

The Pilot Project Programme enables Film Hub Scotland members to undertake pilot work to engage and grow under-served audiences with independent British and specialised film, particular young audiences (13-30 year olds).

Support is available for projects taking place from May - August 2018. Projects must be completed by 31st August 2018 (new funding streams will be available from that point to support projects of this type).

Support for projects will be considered up to £5,000, from a total fund of £20,000. NB If you are looking for support up to £200 please see our Pitch Pots programme.

If you would like to apply, please read the guidelines and send us the proposal form

The fund is open now and the first decisions will be made in the week commencing 16 April 2018 then - dependent on funds remaining - funding will be allocated on a rolling first-come, first-served basis to projects that meet the criteria of the fund. Therefore it is recommended that your project proposal is received no later than Friday 13 April if you would like it to be considered in the first round of decision-making.

The following are key priorities for Film Hub Scotland, and the BFI Film Audience Network. Projects which address one or more of these priority areas will be prioritised.

  • Diversity, inclusion and access

o   Specialised and independent film covers a broad range of themes and stories but certain groups remain under-provided for or excluded both through representation on screen and in the audience. We are looking to support projects that are targeted at and co-developed with underrepresented groups.

  • Young People (15 - 30 year olds)

o   The audience for specialised film skews older and therefore we would like to support organisations that are keen to increase attendance and engagement with young people. Please note we are unable to support schools screenings.

  • Screen Heritage The screening of archive film is essential for audiences to understand and appreciate their screen heritage and therefore will are looking to support projects that present archive and classic material to audiences in new contexts.

*Film Hub Scotland is committed to the BFI’s Diversity Standards, recognising and acknowledging the quality and value of difference and working towards reducing under-representation in the following focus areas: disability, gender, race, age and sexual orientation as they pertain to the Equality Act 2010, as well as seeking to ensure that people from lower socio-economic groups are better represented.
