The BFI Diversity Fund is part of the commitment made by the BFI in 2012 in their Film Forever strategy. Diversity is a core part of their work and as such the BFI Diversity Fund will ensure that they are able to reach out to a wider audience and add depth to their other current work in this area. The new BFI Diversity Standards apply to all applications made for Lottery funding at the Film Fund, and also apply to the BFI Diversity Fund.
The Diversity Fund focusses on specific groups that are currently under-represented within the film industry. The BFI would like to fund film projects or activities that focus on under-representation in the following areas:
- Sexual orientation
- Low socio-economic status
- Activity outside of London
The Fund exists to help BFI meet their core aim of recognising and acknowledging the value and quality of difference. It will support people and projects that are highly likely to have an impact on the diversity of the British film industry; these can be one-off, short-term / time-limited or take place over a longer period of time.
The BFI are currently revising the guidelines and application process for this fund to take into consideration the response from the consultation for BFI 2022.
