Scotland's Screen Summit 2016

Scotland’s Screen Summit is a one-day forum open to everyone involved and interested in the future of Scotland’s film and television sector – whether industrial or cultural – to come together to discuss and debate what that future can be.

Scotland’s screen sector is facing a period of immense change, challenge and opportunity, including the development of the BFI’s new five-year plan, BBC Charter renewal, the establishment of the Screen Sector Leadership Group, more access to fiscal levers for the Scottish Government, the ongoing digital revolution for producers, distributors and consumers, and the perennial issues of industry skills gaps and talent drain. How do we maintain a competitive edge in this global market?

In December 2015, in response to a recommendation from the Scottish Parliament’s EET Committee, the Screen Sector Leadership Group was established, with John McCormick as chair and with representation from across the sector, to identify the key challenges and opportunities facing the sector and to create an action plan that would deliver genuine change. The Summit this year will focus on the work of the Screen Sector Leadership Group, and its findings from the last six months.

As well as a forum for discussion and debate, the day will have keynote speakers setting out their views on the issues Scotland’s screen sector should be considering. This is an opportunity for everyone to look at the current views and concerns of the industry, and to contribute to the debate of how we build a successful Scottish screen industry in the future.

The Summit is co-hosted by EIFF and Edinburgh College of Art, and in partnership with the Screen Sector Leadership Group.
